EARLIER THIS YEAR THE SMALL GROUP OF MEMBERS KNOWN AS THE TEXAS FREEDOM CAUCUS CONVINCED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TO CHANGE THE RULES FOR SPEAKER.INSTEAD OF BEING ELECTED BY THE ENTIRE 150 MEMBER BODY, PLANS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS TO HAVE THE REPUBLICAN MEMBERS, SELECT A CANDIDATE AND THEN PLEDGE TO SUPPORT HIM.THAT WOULD SIDELINE DEMOCRATS AND ENSURE THAT ONLY REPUBLICANS COULD DECIDE ON THE NEXT SPEAKER. THEIR GOAL WAS TO UNSEAT
