Peter Brook on The Prisoner | 2018 International Festival

The Prisoner started with a real life story that I lived myself about 40 years ago in Afghanistan. I saw a man who had been condemned to sit for the whole of his sentence outside the prison, staring at it. The look in his eyes was so strong that this has up until now stayed with with me. Who was he? Why was he? What was he doing there? All the mysterious themes, all the questions are related to questions that every single day are part of our life. A myth like a Greek tragedy, coming from far, far away and at the same time being a story in every detail for us, today, about our situation here and now.
