Police officer accused of assaulting handcuffed, shackled man


CHARGED LANGUAGE BEFORE BEATING A PRISONER. PAM CROSS IN WORCESTER RIGHT NOW. . REPORTER: HE’S A 17 YEAR VETERAN OF THE WORCESTER POLICE DEPARTMENT, HE’S IN THE COURTHOUSE NOT GONE BEFORE THE JUDGE YET. THESE ARE CHARGES, IF PROVED, CRIMINAL AND CIVIL CHARGES COULD END HIS CAREER. A 48-YEAR-OLD WORCESTER MAN SAYS THAT ON DECEMBER 1ST, HE WAS IN A HOLDING CELL, HE WAS HANDCUFFED. THE OFFICER, HE SAYS, PUNCHED HIM. KICKED HIM AND THEN MADE A COMMENT ABOUT HIS BLACK SKIN. THE MAN REPORTED THAT CLAIM TO POLICE IN MID MARCH. WE HAVE NOT YET HEARD FROM THE VICTIM. HIS ATTORNEY HAS SAID THAT AT THE TIME THAT IT HAPPENED, THE MAN REQUIRED MEDICAL TREATMENT. POLICE CONFIRMED THERE IS SURVEILLANCE VIDEO FROM INSIDE THE HOLDING CELL. THEY HAVE NOT RELEASED THAT VIDEO YET. THE OFFICER COULD FACE THE JUDGE SHORTLY.
