Visiting a prisoner – Prohibited items

A number of items are not allowed in prisons. A prohibited item, otherwise known as contraband is anything that is controlled or banned
from being introduced into a prison. Prohibited items may vary
depending on the security level of the prison. It is a criminal offence to bring any form
of contraband on to prison property. Once you are on prison property your vehicle may be searched. All visitors must go through a thorough security screening before entering the prison. Any visitor found introducing contraband may be banned from all prisons for up to 12 months or more and may also be referred to Victoria Police.
